Tesla Motors announces "Model S" EV, puts us one step closer...

Sun Jul 13, 2008 at 02:40:12 PM PDT

About two weeks ago, Tesla Motors announced their new Model S electric vehicle. Unfortunately its still a ways off (production in 2010, possibly later if delayed), but there is a lot of hope on the horizon for the future of energy and electric vehicles. I just hope we can survive the oil crunch the next 5-6 years...

Musings on Solar Power & the Future (pt. 3)

Sat Jul 12, 2008 at 09:52:46 AM PDT

Sorry about taking so long to get part 3 out. I wrote the first two parts together (in advance) and tried to write this third one after I published the first two, and well, life gets in the way sometimes...

In part 1, I talked about the basic of solar power.

In part 2, I went into detail about thin-film technologies that stand to dramatically bring the price down.

In this part, I'll talk about Solar Thermal, focusing in on Concentrated Solar Power, or CSP. This is using the heat energy from the sun to generate power.

Musings on Solar Power & the Future (pt. 2)

In part 1 I covered the two different types of solar power and the basic on cost and ROI.

This is part 2. I'll cover some future developments, specifically thin-film technologies which could revolutionize solar power. But TF has its drawbacks too, specifically low power efficiency per sq meter.

This is my first diary on Solar energy of many.

In this entry I'll cover the solar basics, and cover some of the economics.

"Gas Tax Holiday" would do no good for Nevadans

Wed Apr 30, 2008 at 06:19:09 AM PDT

Both Sens. McCain and Clinton have endorsed a gas tax holiday from Memorial Day to Labor Day in the US. This would shave 18.4 cents off the price of every gallon of unleaded.

There has been a lot of debate on the tax holiday - if it is just pandering to voters or if it'll make a difference and how much it would actually save the average individual, if that amount would do any good, and whether it was worth giving up the revenue to build and maintain highways.

This morning's Las Vegas Review Journal points out the laws of the state of Nevada would mean that the residents of this state would see no relief.
